Athamanio is a village literally submerged in fir trees, built on the foothills of Southern Tzoumerka at an altitude that starts from the village center at 700 m, while the peak above the village is at 2,393 m. It is the largest and most populous village in the Municipality of Central Tzoumerka, and its distance from Arta, the capital of the prefecture, is 64 km.

Green, full of fir trees, plane trees, and running clear waters, Athamanio has many stone-arched bridges, with the most famous one being the "Tsagkarakis" bridge, as well as stone fountains where one can quench their thirst at any time. Due to its good climate, there are two summer camps in the village which fill up with children and students during the summer months.
Important attractions of the village are the Folklore Museum, the watermill and the fulling-mill in Agia Kyriaki, which are still fully operational today, and of course the picturesque paved square with the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos and its two large plane trees, one of which is over a century old and covers almost half of its area.
Athamanio is also suitable for lovers of hiking and cycling, as the beautiful fir-tree-filled forest of Ai Giannis with its wonderful paths is a short distance away, while during the summer months one can enjoy swimming at the famous beach of the Acheloos River in the Terpna area, just a 15-minute drive away.
